Le Vieux Puits is a beautifully renovated stone barn located in a small village 5km from the busy market town of Buis les Baronnies in the Drome Provencal region of South East France. It is named after an ancient village well found during the renovation and can comfortably sleep up to six people.

The accommodation consists of:

  • Bedroom One with en-suite shower room and double doors opening onto the terrace. This bedroom can have 3 single beds or 1 double bed and 1 single as required.
  • Bedroom Two with en-suite shower room and mezzanine bed. This bedroom can have 3 single beds or 1 double bed and 1 single as required.
  • Spacious, open-plan living room and fully equipped kitchen (dish washer and washing machine), comfortable seating area with wood-burning stove, television, DVD and stereo. Large double doors onto the terrace.
  • Large, partly covered, south-facing private terrace with outdoor dining area, barbeque and superb views of Mt. Ventoux and surrounding hills.

The area is famous for its laid-back way of life and the local markets remain a key part of social and economic life. The twice-weekly market in Buis les Baronnies offers visitors a chance to sample many of the region's
specialities and unique local products.

Buis les Baronnies has a large open-air swimming pool, indoor climbing wall, cinema, municipal tennis courts, cycle-park and children's play facilities. The town also has many fine restaurants and cafes, as well as two small supermarkets.

For anyone wanting to explore a little further afield, the vineyards of the Rhone Valley and surrounding towns provide many places of interest. The great variety of wines can be sampled and purchased at the numerous local Caves.

Avignon is well known for its historic bridge, Papal Palace and international summer festival. Orange and Vaison la Romaine are both famous for their Roman ruins, traditional markets and festivals. Nyons is well known for its fine olive oil, Roman bridge and traditional market.

Rock Climbing:
Buis les Baronnies is one of France’s finest climbing areas, with single and multi-pitch routes of all styles and grades possible. Climbing is possible here all year round, winter often gives cool, dry conditions while shade can be found during the hotter summer months.

‘This area has got something for everyone – multi-pitch climbing, hard sport routes, easy slabs and lovely family crags. It’s a beautiful region and, with the fantastic weather and relaxed way of life, somewhere I keep coming back to.’  Lucy Creamer. Sheffield.

The region's best crags include:

St. Leger du Ventoux: Single-pitch routes from 6a to 8c+. A true world-class venue with amazing, steep tufa climbing in a beautiful valley.
Beaume Rousse: Single and multi-pitch climbing from 4+ to 8b. Something for everyone with slabs, wall and steep tufa climbing in a great location.
St Julien: More than 100 multi-pitch routes up to 110 metres in length from 5 to 7b+.

'Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Over the years we have stayed in many Gites throughout France and yours is definitely one of the best ever! It has a view to die for from the terrace and we loved the variety of rock climbing and the beautiful surroundings. We will spread the word about this little paradise and we'll be back soon. Many Thanks.'

'What a great place for a holiday. The accommodation is very comfortable and the situation is amazing. The area has lots to offer for an active holiday and the house is a great place to come back to for an evenings chilling out on the terrace. See you again.'
The Smith Family, South Devon.

‘The cottage is beautifully decorated, it's tasteful, stylish and very relaxing. The beds are very comfortable, better than our own at home! The view from the balcony is to die for. It's completely silent at night and there's no light pollution which makes for magical romantic evenings star gazing with a glass of wine after a busy day, climbing, walking, cycling or splashing in the river. Ollie and Jess are super-friendly and will help you as much or as little as you want. They're full of ideas to make your holiday even better or they'll just leave you alone to get on with, it's up to you. Highly recommended.' Gill Kent, Buxton.
