Alan Carne |
Alan has been climbing for thirty years and was the first British climber to obtain the French National Climbing Diploma - Brevet d'Etat d'Escalade. He has traveled widely in Europe, the US, and Asia, and has made many impressive ascents including Salathe Wall and the Nose (in a day) in Yosemite. He has on-sighted many E6 traditional routes, and has accomplished difficult alpine rock routes in Switzerland, France and Italy. |
Alan first came to the Verdon Gorge in 1979, when he climbed such classics as La Demande and Dingomaniaque. He now lives close by, and last year completed the 2nd free ascent of Mingus (a 400m route of 8a, first free climbed by Lynn Hill). He is presently working on red-pointing an 8b in the gorge. Alan's immense experience, local knowledge, technical ability and coaching skills make him stand out as one of the few 'exceptional' climbing instructors. |
